MODEL HISTORY
The original Fiat 500 was produced from 1957 to 1975 – a tiny city car, it was just 2.97m long and was powered by a 479cc two-cylinder engine. It was immediately popular, and its distinctive design has become a classic of its type.

Revealed at the Geneva motor in 2013, the pumped-up three-door hatchback is being pitched as an entry-level track day car. And with a raft of performance-enhancing developments taken from the Assetto Corse race car, it promises a truly hardcore driving experience.

The Biposto which simply means “Two-Seater” drips with track-bred pedigree. Born from the Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione race car, it is the perfect synthesis of road performance and racing emotion. The fastest Abarth faithful to pure racing traditions; with performance and lightweight at the forefront of the design. Not to mention the added bonus of the carbon fibre front apron, bigger rear diffuser, Akrapovic exhaust, wider arches and light weight racing OZ alloys.

The special edition Fiat 500 Abarth 695 biposto ‘Record’ commemorates the Scorpion brand’s race heritage, with the production run of 133 representing the 133 records it holds. The livery and interior match those of the racing cars that have set many of those records, specifically the Fiat Abarth 1000 Monoposto record class G. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Carlo Abarth acceleration record set by the then 57-year-old in 1965 which in October of that year, Carlo had lost 30 kilograms (66 pounds) of weight to enter the race after having failed to find the right driver for the car. His Class G sported 105 horsepower.

EXTERIOR
The clean and cute presentation of the original 500 has had a thorough re-work here by Abarth resulting in the sports focused 695 Biposto Record featuring aerodynamic styling upgrades in the shape of an extended front bumper and chin spoiler / louvers, side skirts, rear wing and a diffuser surround for the unique exhaust system. The Modena coachwork is in excellent order, commensurate with age and mileage. This rich race heritage of Abarth has been applied and displayed proudly with a variety Record Edition badges over the car leaving any passer by that this is no ordinary Fiat 500 but something very limited and rare.

INTERIOR
Stepping inside the race focused 695, the first thing that catches your eye are the immaculate carbon fibre Recaro bucket seats with Biposto stitched into the headrests. Lightweight carbon fibre trim is used within the interior to compliment the the array of carbon on the exterior of the car alongside its production plaque listing it’s individual number out of the total built..

The interior is very simple with few gadgets, fabric door pulls and no rear seats, designed as such and purely set up to be a light weight hot hatch true to its name.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Forced induction has become the norm amongst hot hatches of today and the operating bracket of the little 1.4 is pleasingly broad. There is a sweet spot between 3 and 5k revs where the car feels extremely willing, helped by a sport button that works to spool up more torque alongside a sharper throttle response, whereas the car is equally happy bumbling along for more leisurely progress.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Being the track focused 695 Biposto this example comes with the optional Lightweight OZ Racing Alloys which present in immaculate condition and are fixed with wheel studs rather than bolts, normally found on the race track. The stylish alloys are wrapped in a matching set of Eagle F1 tyres with all 4 corners showing good tread.

Brakes are courtesy of a Brembo braking system which present well with plenty of material remaining on both pads and discs.
